In a study by Foiles and colleagues, the effect of infant omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on allergy development was investigated (Foiles et al., 2016). Infants were given infant formula either with or without omega-3 fatty acids DHA and ARA. It was found that the supplementation group had a delayed onset of first allergenic illness and skin allergenic illness. Moreover, in mothers without any allergies, the omega-3 supplementation reduced the risk of any and skin allergies.
